I still think Apple is going to Sherlock them. Unfortunately they are heading in a direction where having an alternate option might be prudent for us. They have shifted their focus to the enterprise and are now established on the "infinite growth" ladder with the VC funding they have taken. People just have issues with the way that Agile handled the transition from 7 to 8.
That being said, password managers have to deal with enough BS outside of security (tracking three major browsers is probably a huge pain) that a subscription makes a bit of sense. The business model is the company's responsibility, and not mine as the customer. And "servicing customers in an ethical way" sounds a bit like marketing speak.
